Selena Quintanilla Perez (Spanish pronunciation, [se'lenakinta'nija'peres]; April 16th, 1971 - March 31st 1995), also known as Selena is a famous American Tejano performer. The "Queen Tejano music", her contributions in fashion and music have made her one of the most popular Mexican-American entertainers ever. Billboard magazine placed her third on their list of the "Greatest Latino Artists" basing their selection on Latin albums and Latin chart of songs. In her selection of clothes the media referred to her as the Tejano Madonna. Her choices in clothing have brought her the title "Tejano Madonna" from media outlets. Quintanilla and Suzette Quintanilla. They were frequently criticised in the 1980s and refused performances at Texas venues due to her performances of Tejano music, a predominantly male-dominated genre. After winning the Tejano Music Award in 1987 for Female Vocalist, she gained the attention of her peers. The singer was signed to EMI Latin in 1989 and released her debut album self-titled in the same year. During that time, her brother became her primary music producer as well as songwriter.Selena has released Entre a Mi Mundo (1992) that peaked at top of the US Billboard Regional Mexican Albums chart for eight consecutive months. The album's commercial success was praised by music critics as making it the "breakthrough" record of her musical career. "Como la Flor", one of its singles, became her beloved hit song. Live! Live! Amor Prohibido was her 1994 album. It was one of America's most popular Latin albums. It was widely credited with launching Tejano music's very first commercial era. It became one of Latin music's most popular subgenres.
