April Ross

April Ross has won more than one medal at the Olympics. She is one of the few female beach volleyball players that have done so. Alix-Klineman is set to compete alongside April Ross in Tokyo to win her third gold in the coming days. But more than that, Ross hopes to win her very first Olympic gold. Since she's 39 years old and has a long way to go, this could be her final chance. But she's confident top awards can be achieved. Ross stated via NBC Boston: "If we perform our best and playing well I'm sure we'll get the gold medal." Also, it's an issue of luck. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in the year 1982. Her parents and her sister were residents there. While at Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many different sports. When she was a student in the prep school she played indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as running track. When she played in the final sport she stood out. According to her bio in high school, she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). She was named by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the Year in 1999, for her performance. The skills she showed in volleyball also brought her the Orange County Athlete of the Awards in the year 2000. Ross Klineman and Ross may have begun working together in 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned volleyball player before they came together. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. One of them is an iconic player in the volleyball world. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until the year 2013. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship together with Kessy in 2009, also was an important player on the international stage. They won a Silver Medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team who took home the Olympic gold medal in 2012 in London, beat them out to win the gold medal. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she had retired. They both went on to take home the bronze beach volleyball medal in the Rio Olympics 2016 with Walsh Jennings. After high school and years before she hit the beach as a professional Ross played with the Trojans of USC as an collegiate. Her experience at USC was impressive. In 2000, as a freshman, her play earned her the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. She also helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. In her sophomore year, she was devastated by a personal loss but still managed to be a second All-American. Through her last two years in the program she led the Trojans towards the top of the mountain by winning two successive national titles. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the best female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a student at USC in International Relations. Margie Ross didn't get to witness Ross become the highest beach volleyball stage. Ross's mother died of breast carcinoma in the year 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. She continues to hold her lost parent near and dear. Margie has inspired her throughout her life, as well as on the beach.
