April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball players who have won medals during several Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to win her third gold medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross hopes to win more than just her first Olympic medal. At 39 and has a long way to go, this could be her final chance. Her confidence is high, however. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa, California in 1982. She lived here along with her parents and younger sister. While at Newport Harbor High School, she played in a variety of sports. In addition to playing indoor volleyball, she also played basketball and jogged track in her pre-college days. She was definitely an edge over the other players in this latter game. Her college biography states that she was an outside hitter, middle blocker, as well as a setter in her volleyball playing career during high school. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her the national Player 1999. Additionally, in 2000, she was recognized as the Orange County Athlete of the year for volleyball. Ross has been playing alongside Klineman since the year 2017 but her beach game was established well before the year. This prize was awarded to the most outstanding female volleyball players at colleges across the country. Ross was an USC international relations student, was a volleyball star. Margie Ross did not get to see her daughter's rise to beach volleyball fame. Margie, Ross's mother, passed away in 2001. Ross was still a USC sophomore. She had breast cancer.
