April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball stars who won medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days she will attempt to net her third medal alongside first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross hopes to win more than her initial Olympic medal. At 39, it could be her last chance to do so. Still confident nevertheless. Ross through NBC Boston, said that If the team is performing well or at all it could be able to win gold. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck as well. Ross born in 1982 and was raised within Costa Mesa California with her mother and sister, first began competing in the sports of the Newport Harbor High School. Ross competed in many sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and track in addition to her volleyball skills in the indoors as a prep athlete. Though she excelled in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her abilities were higher than average. The college bio says that she was an outside hitter, middle blocker and setter throughout her volleyball time during high school. Her efforts were recognized when she was named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Player of the Year. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her for volleyball. Ross and Klineman began their partnership in 2017, However, Ross has been a beach star for years before. It's true that she has had the chance to win numerous tournaments, including one with an iconic volleyball player. From 2007-2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy who more recently served as her and Klineman's coach. Together with Kessy Ross was an ace in the world circuit, winning a world title in 2009. They took home a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) and Misty Maytreanor won gold, overtaking them. Ross was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's resignation. The pair were awarded bronze medals at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college player at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She played during high school, and even years prior to hitting the beach professionally. Ross had an impressive run in the college. She was a All-American and Pac-10 freshman of the year when she was a teen freshman. She also helped the Trojans reach the Final Four. In her sophomore season she suffered a devastating personal loss and still was able to be named an All-American. Over her final 2 years in the Trojans program, she coached the Trojans to winning a national title every time. In 2003-2004, Ross was named as the most successful female volleyball player at a collegiate level in the US according to The Honda Sports Award. Ross studied the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the opportunity to see her daughter grow into an international beach volleyball star. Ross suffered the loss of her mom to cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. But she still keeps her parent close to heart. Margie is an inspiration on and off of the beach.
