April Ross
April Ross is one of only a few female beach volleyball stars to capture medals at more than one Olympics. In Tokyo during the next few days she will attempt to claim her third Olympic medal along with first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross's aim is to get her first Olympic Gold. And at the age of 39 this may be her last opportunity to accomplish this. But she's convinced that winning the gold medal is in reach. If we play our best or even if we do well, I believe we'll be able to win that gold medal Ross said via NBC Boston. This is also an issue of luck. Ross, who was born 1982 and lived within Costa Mesa California with her sister and parents, began playing the sports of the Newport Harbor High School. She went on to compete in numerous activities during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She played basketball and ran track in addition to her indoor volleyball exploits in her time as a college athlete. In her final game she stood out. Based on her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitter on the volleyball court during her senior year at high school. For her efforts, she was honored as in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Although Ross and Klineman have been doing their thing from 2017 onward, the former was already an established player on the beach scene long before their pairing. She has had the chance to win numerous events, one of which was with a legendary volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 until 2013. Together, Kessy Ross was a force on the international circuit winning the world championship in 2009. They took home a Silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games held in London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. It was fate that had them. Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The duo won the beach volleyball bronze during the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC following graduation from high school. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross made her debut on the sand and turned professional. Her career was a success in college. Her freshman year in 2000 earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman's of Year awards and be an All-American. The Trojans could also get to the Final Four with her help. She suffered a devastating personal loss during her sophomore year and yet she went on to repeat as an All-American. Through her two final years with the Trojans they helped win consecutive championships. She was a great volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player at the college level. Ross played international relations as a student at USC. Margie Ross was never able to see her daughter make it to the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. However, she keeps her mother in her the heart. And Margie continues to be an inspiration to her on the beach and in her daily life.
