April Ross
April Ross is only one of the few beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. At 39, this could be her final chance to take home the gold medal at an Olympics. Her optimism is that she can achieve top honors. Ross, via NBC Boston, said that when the team performs consistently or well it could be able to win gold. "I'm planning to test to have a bit of luck." Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. She grew up in Costa Mesa with her father, mother and sister. She went on to compete in numerous activities at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor volleyball and track. She was clearly the best player in indoor volleyball. In her own biography her high school days, she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). She was named the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. In 2000, she was awarded her the Orange County Athlete of the year award for volleyball. Although Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major player on the beach scene prior to their team. She actually won multiple major tournaments using two partners, one of which is a volleyball icon. Between 2007 and 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Alongside Kessy Ross was a force in the world circuit, winning a world title in 2009. This duo went on to win a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team as well as Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Walsh was Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's departure. The pair won bronze in the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross began her college career with the USC Trojans following high school. It was a long time before Ross went to the beach, and then became a pro. This was an impressive career for Ross in the school. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman of the Year. She was also named an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore year and yet she went on to repeat in the ranks of an All-American. In her last two years, she took the Trojans to the top of the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player and won the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the most outstanding female volleyball player in the NCAA. Ross was a student of international relations at USC. Margie Ross did not get to watch her daughter's climb to fame as a beach volleyball player. Ross's mom Margie passed away in 2001. Ross was still in the midst of being a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. She still holds her mother very dearly. Margie continues to be an inspiration both on and off at the beach.
