April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball stars who won medals in more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is the newest Olympian and is set to join her in Tokyo. Ross will also be hoping for her very first Olympic gold. As she turns 39, it could be her last chance to win the Olympic gold. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even If we play our best I'm sure we'll get the gold medal." Also, I'll take the opportunity to try my luck. Ross was a Californian born in Costa Mesa in 1982. Her family lived in the area along with her parents and younger sister. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. She competed in basketball and the track as well as her indoor volleyball achievements as a pre-collegiate athlete. However, she was a standout during this game. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball, according to her bio at the college. The award was presented to her as one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. Also, in 2000 she was named Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their partnership in 2017, however, Ross had been a beach-scene player for years prior to. In fact, she's won numerous events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. From 2007 to 2013 she was in a partnership with Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Alongside Kessy Ross, she was a major force in the world circuit, winning a world title in 2009. They eventually won a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings the legendary team who won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, beat each other to take home the gold medal. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor when she retired. They both won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. Ross was a Trojans player for the USC during her college days, prior to becoming a professional. The Trojans had a great performance for Ross during her time at the college level. When she was a freshman in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA Young Player of the Year awards. Additionally, she assisted her Trojans get to the Final Four. She endured a great personal loss in her sophomore, however, she was successful in achieving the All-American title. Over the course of the two years she played for the Trojans they helped win consecutive championships. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time legend winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the chance to watch her daughter become the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001, when Ross was still an USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. She is devoted to her late parent. Margie is a constant source of inspiration for her both on and off the beach.
