In the year 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it became the highest-streamed hit song in just one year. The song was a mix of reggaeton and pop, which was not just a new ear to reggaeton but also more interest in Latin music. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mainly, and four others in 2016. When Despacito was at its height, the band's success in 2017, 19 tracks primarily written in Spanish were in within the top 100. This figure grew to 41 in 2020. In the wake of Justin Bieber's dual remix to Despacito (2017) the most well-known musicians quickly began to collaborate on reggaeton tracks, like Drake and Bad Bunny on MIA (2018) as well as Madonna with Maluma for Medellin (2019). Certain reggaeton performers were unhappy about the trend toward popular music coming into 2020. Yet a new group, Rauw alejandro, was seeking to make a change. It often featured elements from various genres, as well as electronic dance.
